As we approach the Christmas season, one of the things that we try to do, every Advent, is to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is when we go to confession and receive absolution for our sins, that we receive the gift of Christ’s peace. You know that feeling. As you walk out of the confessional, you feel a huge weight lifted off your shoulders. You feel united to Christ. That is the feeling of peace! And that is what I wish for you this holiday season.
Receiving Christ’s Peace
The year is coming to an end, with the promise of new and good things in the new year. There is no better time to shed ourselves of the chains of sin! Feel the glorious freedom of being in a state of grace! Every December, when I go to confession, I walk out of the confessional feeling like Jesus just gave me my Christmas present, and He is the one with the birthday. We should be showering Him with presents. Yet, it is the gift of Christ’s peace that sets our hearts aglow.
May God’s Favor Rest with You
So, take some time this Advent season, and visit the confessional. When you walk out feeling like you are on cloud nine, don’t thank me – thank Jesus. And while you’re at it, thank Him for the gift of his peace, too. “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests” (Luke 2:14). My wish for you is that God’s favor rests with you. May you receive Christ’s peace. Amen.
