Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary Feast Day

Queenship of the Blessed Virgin MaryToday, we celebrate another Marian Feast Day, the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is on this day that we honor Mary, as Queen of Heaven. As the Mother of God, and the spouse of the Holy Spirit, she holds a special place in the hearts of the faithful. It is only right that, as the Mother of God, she should be crowned as Queen of Heaven, as Christ is the King!

As Catholics, when we pray the Rosary, on Wednesdays and Sundays, we recognize the crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary as Queen of Heaven, when we recite the fifth Glorious Mystery. This glorious event deserves some meditation, on our part.

As Bishop Barron articulates in this video, the Blessed Virgin Mary is the New Ark of the Covenant, in that she is the pure vessel that gives birth to Christ. She is the crowned figure mentioned in Revelation 12:1-3.

Let the Blessed Virgin Mary Show You the Way

Bishop Barron also mentions that immediately upon giving birth to the Child (Christ), war breaks out in Heaven against the dragon (Satan) (Revelation 12:7). In Barron’s analysis, he asks us, “whose side are you on?” The army of Christ, the King, of whom the Blessed Virgin Mary sits at Christ’s side, or Satan? It is a question that we all must answer. Do we choose to walk the journey in peace and love, living a virtuous Christ-like life? Or, do we walk on the dark side, in sin and death? We must make our choice. The Blessed Virgin Mary chose Christ. I choose Christ. What about you?
