Practicing Fortitude: Pursuing the Right Path

Life can be really tough at times. When faced with life’s challenges, we need the virtue of Fortitude. For, it is with Fortitude that we may plow ahead, moving from trial to triumph. So, how do we apply this virtue and move from trial to triumph? Through prayer! Ask God for increased Fortitude; with that naturally comes perseverance and courage to help us endure. They are a package! And I have the perfect prayer! Watch this very short video containing a prayer that you can use to ask God for this virtue.

Prayer of Fortitude

Ask God to take away your fear, and replace it with Fortitude to do His will; to live in accordance with His Commandments. When we make this request, we find ourselves doing courageous things that we never would have dreamed of doing. Prayer is very powerful, and when we ask for something that is good for us, like a virtue, God will grant it to us. We just need to open our hearts and be ready to receive His grace.

I pray for Fortitude all the time, asking God to take me out of my comfort zone so that I may accomplish good things in His name. I am a comfort creature by nature. Adventure is not my thing. But, if I were to only do what I know well and am comfortable doing, then I wouldn’t experience the fullness of all that God has in store for me. Therefore, I need Fortitude to branch out and grow intellectually and spiritually. We all need to do this, or we become stagnant, and die interiorly.

What’s going on in your life, that you might need a good dose of Fortitude? Remember that God will not give you trials that you can’t handle. So, be assured that with God’s grace, you too can come out of your comfort zone and do great things in His name. You can triumph over trial!
