Confidence in God: Embrace It!

Embrace Confidence

Confidence in God, and ourselves, comes by acknowledging first and foremost that doubts and fears are part of our existence. They act as the prime drivers for lack of confidence in God and ourselves. However, it is how we handle those doubts and fears that make all the difference.

Check out this one minute video on the topic of confidence, and we’ll discuss it on the other side:

Looking at life through a positive lens, aka excitement, rather than a negative lens, aka doubts and fears, changes our perception of any given situation. When we change our perceptions to look at the positives in life, we gain more confidence. I’ll use my own life as Continue reading

Confidence is a Worthy Virtue

With God 2

Confidence, at its most basic level, is hope in God. It is with confidence and hope in Jesus’ salvific action that we will one day be resurrected at the Second Coming of Christ, as promised in 1 Cor. 15:35-58. It is with confidence and hope in God’s promises that we place our trust in Him. He will always give us what we need as noted in Matthew 6:25-34. With these assurances, we traverse through life with confidence. When we place our confidence in God, knowing that He will always be by our side, guiding us in every way, we also begin to gain confidence in ourselves. We believe what Matthew says in Matt 19:26: “With God, all things are Continue reading

Practice Diligence with Fervor!

Marie Newman

To practice diligence effectively, we must perform our tasks quietly and calmly, keeping our focus on what we do. Back in the very early days of my career in banking, when I was working a teller’s window, we had a very feisty woman on staff, named Marie Newman, that was known to have quipped, “If you can’t find the time to do it right in the first place, when are you going to find the time to fix your mistake?” I’m thankful that comment was not directed at me. Nonetheless, her overheard comment provided one of those moments in my life when I heard with such clarity words that will never fail me, nor will I ever forget. I Continue reading

Why is embracing diligence so important?

How can we win the good race without embracing diligence? Diligence is the driver for succeeding in acquiring all other virtues through practice, so that the desired virtues in question can become habits. Through the perseverance of faith Saint Paul tells us: “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for His appearance” (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Saint Paul, by embracing diligence, kept the end goal always in mind – that being entry into Heaven. His words are guiding us Continue reading

Diligence Has Its Merits, If You Apply It

Diligence Quote Diligence requires us to apply perseverance and organization to see a task through to the end. Ever try to do too much, and as a result, get nothing done well, because you spread yourself too thin? If you’re like me, the answer is yes! Well, Saint Francis de Sales gives us some great guidance in this matter:

Try to meet the occupations which come upon you quietly, and perform them with regularity, one after the other; for if you endeavor to do all at once, or in confusion, your spirit will be so overcharged and depressed that it will probably sink under the burden without accomplishing anything.1

We need to be patient with ourselves as well. Continue reading

Practicing Faithfulness

Practicing Faithfulness

I will say up front that it is easier said than done practicing faithfulness to God. He is ever faithful to us, but because of our tendency toward sin, we fail to be ever faithful to Him. To be faithful to God and to not give in to self-pride, fears and doubts, one must engage in persistent prayer, always asking for increased faith and trust in God. It is with that increased faith and trust in God that we are able to live a more virtuous life, conformed to Christ. Bottom line: Your faith must be more important to you than the temptations that pummel you each day. Never compromise at the expense of your faith. Continue reading

Embrace Faithfulness

Embrace Faith 2

To embrace Faithfulness and be faithful to God, we need to ask for His guidance in all matters, an increase in faith, an increase in trust, and an unwavering loyalty to Him. We are all created in God’s image and likeness. Therefore, we all have the capability to be faithful. Yet when we allow self-pride, doubts and fears to creep into our psyches, thus eroding our faith and trust in God, we are in essence giving more credibility to the devil than to God; for it is the devil who is the promoter of self-pride, doubts and fears. When we allow these negative feelings and attributes to take over, our loyalty to God diminishes.

I don’t know about you, but Continue reading

Faithfulness: God’s Promise! How Do We Respond?

Faithfulness Faithfulness is both a virtue and a fruit of the Holy Spirit. As a virtue, it is a belief in and trust of another with an unwavering loyalty. As a fruit of the Holy Spirit, God’s faithfulness to each of us is just that – unwavering. He will never turn His back on us; He will never leave our sides. God calls us to be faithful to Him in the same way that He is faithful to us. Therefore, He asks us to trust in Him. “Trust in the Lord and do good that you may dwell in the land and live secure. Find your delight in the Lord who will give you your heart’s desire” (Psalm 37:3-4). Continue reading
