Winter Blessings Bear Much Fruit

Winter Blessings We officially entered the winter season last Wednesday, and are now in that time of year when life slows down dramatically, in comparison to the hustle and bustle of the holidays. We welcome the opportunity to come in out of the cold and seek the warmth of a roaring fire. Unlike many people, I love this time of year! I appreciate a good snowfall, especially when I get to stay inside, all cozy and warm. As an avid reader, I love sitting by the fire, curled up with my favorite afghan and a good book. I appreciate the solitude that Continue reading

My Heart Beats for Christ! For Whom Does Your Heart Beat?

August 22, 2016

Heart Beats I was recently at the doctor’s office for my annual visit. While sitting in the examining room, with nothing to do but wait, I read the ad on the door. It showed a picture of an older woman, holding a placard that said, “My heart beats for______.” She filled in the blank with “my grandkids.” She had a huge smile on her face. The ad promoted preventative health exams.

As I sat there looking at the ad, I asked myself, for whom does my heart beat? I hope my husband isn’t too disappointed, but my first instinct was to Continue reading

Becoming More Like Christ – Book Review

Becoming More Like ChristBecoming More Like Christ: A Daily Prayer Guide to Living the Beatitudes by Monsignor David E. Rosage

Christ is sending me a message, and I am hearing it loud and clear. As with last month’s book review of Blessed are the Stressed, by Sister Mary Lea Hill, the Holy Spirit seems to have placed another book in my path centered on the Beatitudes! Becoming More like Christ, by Monsignor David E. Rosage, is a wonderful daily prayer guide to living the Beatitudes. Given that the Beatitudes are focused on discipleship, via the embrace of such virtues as humility, Continue reading

I See Christ in You

couple-comforting-each-other 2

I wrote this poem for a loved one. I tried to express my compassion and understanding for the difficult time and circumstances he experienced. Yet, when all was said and done, it was his demeanor and Christ-like behavior that buoyed my spirits and truly helped me to see Christ in him; to fully understand the hope found in the Beatitudes.

This poem was first published at Catholicmom.com on March 4, 2016.

And do certain things the way they Continue reading

Peace: Got to Get Me Some!

Christ's Peace

Christ’s Peace

Does it elude you? It seems that during this time of year, everyone wishes each other “Peace on earth” (Luke 2:14). Do you view this sentiment with hope, or do you think it falls flat?

If you have Christ’s Peace within your own heart, I think you view this sentiment with great aspirations of hope, because you wish for others what you possess for yourself. If it falls flat, then perhaps you do not have the amount of Christ’s Peace within your own heart that you desire.

How would you know if you actually had Christ’s Peace within Continue reading

Easter Blessings to You and Yours!

Christ-the-Lord-is-Risen-Today-605x600

Easter Blessings to You and Yours! I wanted to take a moment wish everyone a very Happy, Blessed Easter! May you and yours be filled with Christ’s blessings this Easter season.   As with spring, Easter is a time of renewal – renewal of  our spirits. Take this time to reflect on Our Savior and all that He did, so that we might live. Take a moment to think about how much He loves you today, and know that when He hung on the cross, died, and rose from the dead 2,000 years ago, He did Continue reading

Receiving Christmas Joy

Receive Joy

As a Christmas present from me to you, I offer you a homily about receiving Christmas Joy, written by a very good friend of mine, Father Paul Buchanan, who gave the following homily on Christmas day last year to parishioners at my church. At the time, Father Paul was a Transitional Deacon. He has since been ordained to the priesthood on June 28, 2014, and now serves at Saint Matthew Church, in Charlotte, NC.

Receiving Christmas Joy

Joy to the world! The Lord is come. We all know the line from the carol. But why do we rejoice on Continue reading
