As schools let out, the lazy days of summer are upon us. This is a great time for some reflection and introspection regarding your spiritual life. We’re about half-way through the year. As we embarked on 2017, many of us made New Year’s resolutions. So, how’s that coming along? If you are like me, you don’t even remember what those resolutions might have been! I certainly do not remember what I vowed to do, not do, or overcome.
My Own Introspection
So, I sit here on the precipice of summer, asking myself what I would like to accomplish with the second half of 2017. Here’s what I came up with:
- I would like to have a better relationship with Our Blessed Mother. I read some great stories on Facebook from Catholic writers about their relationships with the Blessed Mother, only to realize, that something is lacking in my own relationship with her. She seems to be this distant personality, who gathers up my prayers and heads off to use them on others. Although I am consecrated to Jesus through Mary, I want a deeper, closer relationship with Mary. I want to sense her “motherliness.” Right now, I am going through the re-consecration process, and with hope that by doing so, my relationship with Mary will grow deeper.
- I am terrible at memorizing prayers! If I can’t read it, I can’t recite it! There are a series of standard prayers that I intend to memorize, so that I can recite them without assistance. (Progress on that front is forthcoming in a post scheduled for July 3rd).
How About Your Introspection?
In what way(s) might the Holy Spirit be nagging at you to make some changes/improvements? What actions might you take to improve your spiritual life? During your downtime, this summer, give this idea some thought, and create a plan for making some spiritual improvements. Then follow through, and make it happen! You will be glad you did.
