Embracing Hope – Part I of III

Beatitudes III

Why are the Beatitudes so important and how do they relate to our lives? The Beatitudes show us the path that will lead us through the trials of life and what we can expect with hope, through the grace of Jesus Christ. Yet at the same time they confront us with decisive moral choices (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1723). We will cover a detailed look at the Beatitudes in conjunction with Hope, in this three part series, looking at the first three Beatitudes in this post:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven” (Matt 5:3). – Here, poor in spirit pertains to an acknowledgement of our complete dependence on God. Continue reading

Why Embrace Hope?

steps of hope

What do you hope for in your life and why do you keep hoping? Hope is what gets us through the day; through the trials and tribulations of life’s journey. God gives us a “hope that does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us” (Romans 5:5).

Just the thought of no hope, makes me realize how much of my everyday actions are centered on hope. I get up each day and either research or write these blog posts with the hope that I reach that very someone who needs to hear the message for the day. I hope that what I write Continue reading

Why do we hope? Why is Hope important?

Full of Hope

Why is hope important to you? What good does it do to hope? Hope is an infused virtue graced to each of us by God. What is Hope?

We Have Hope

Do you, or someone you know, live in despair? Have you ever been lifted up out of despair and been given hope? Or, have you presumed that because you believe in Jesus Christ that hope is not necessary?

Hope is the desire for eternal life combined with the request for grace to obtain eternal life; to behold the Beatific Vision (Father, Son and Holy Spirit); to be resurrected at the second coming of Christ, with a new glorified body. We have hope that God will give us the capacity to love Him as He deserves to be loved through acts of adoration, contrition, thanksgiving and service.

As with the virtue of faith, hope also flows forth from the First Commandment Continue reading

Crossing the Threshold

Crossing the Threshold

With faith, we all hope to one day cross the threshold from this life into the next, where we will be with Our Lord and Savior. As we move from the reflections of faith to reflections on hope, I found this musical video from the Casting Crowns to be an appropriate segue. The title of the song is “Already There.” I hope you like it.

I’m interested in learning what you think of the song. Post your thoughts in the comments section and enter the conversation.

What is Hope? We’ll answer that question in our next reflection on the virtue of hope. You won’t want to miss it!
